Write Your Self
Any overwhelming, or persistent stressful event can mean our brains have not had time to process the meaning for ourselves, and how we relate to others and the world around us. Sometimes we need space to put what we’ve experienced into words, or language, and we need companionship in the process. We need help to piece our stories and our lives back together. Writing and writing with guidance are good methods to do this, and can be used both separately and as a complement to other forms of treatment and support.
The method developed by Write Your Self has been created for writing after a trauma, where writing can be an instrument for healing, but it can also be used in other ways. A number of things that we encounter in life make us feel as if we have lost our voice, our choice, and are powerless. Therefore our method can also be used in finding and using your voice in the creation of your on going life, as a tool for self-empowerment.
Write Your Self’s methodology rests upon three pillars:
Writing after trauma - it is the writers' choice what they write about, it can be anything - not the trauma itself, or it can be about experiences in the aftermath of trauma.
The writing process - the eight steps of the writing process consist of trauma sensitive writing exercises, and teachings to support the writer to develop sustainable writing.
The writer’s choice and empowerment - the ultimate goal of Write Your Self’s methodology is to bring choice and empowerment back to the writer. Trauma often causes a feeling of powerlessness and loss of agency.
The 3.5 hour Workshop is an introduction to the 8 steps, however those who access the workshop and follow this up with the full 8 session programme within one year will have the workshop fee deducted.
Writing is not required to be shared - this is a private, safe and exploratory process.
